At first, it seemed that the behavior of the chimpanzees would forever remain mysterious.
However, after a few years of spending her days following them
through the forest and recording their habits,
Goodall became intimately familiar with their lives.
Some of her techniques were unusual-for instance,
she gave her chimps names like 'Fifi' and 'Passion' rather than numbers.
In order to attract the apes out into the open where they could be more easily observed,
Goodall also set up a banana-laden feeding station.
